Museums
Some museums and exhibition halls are always open for you. The largest and most popular is the Historical Museum named for Dmitry Yavornitsky. The Museum of Art has quite a good collection of pictures representing different styles and epoch.
Dnepropetrovsk has lots of museums devoted to nearly all sides of life of the city. There are art and history museums as well as museums of factories and universities of the city. Most significant and most interesting for tourists among them are Diorama Museum which depicts the scene of the Battle for Dnepr near Vojskovoe-Vovnigi during the World War II, Dnepropetrovskij Art Museum and Dnepropetrovskij History Museum .
Diorama Museum was built for the 30 th anniversary of the World War II (1975). The museum portrays the pictorial battle scene on the 840 m 2 canvas, placed in a special building after the project of the architect Zuev. The remnants of defensive installations, weapons, crossing facilities, etc. and special lighting and special sound accompaniment make the effect of real presence on the battle field.

Dnepropetrovskij Art Museum is one of the oldest museums in Ukraine . It was first open in 1914, on the 100 th anniversary to the birth of Taras Shevtchenko, the national Ukrainian poet. Since that time the museum has accumulated a rich collection of Russian and Ukrainian art, and the collection of icons is nearly 250 articles. The treasure of the museum is its graphics collection and it makes up 2\3 of the whole museum’s exhibition.

Dnepropetrovskij History Museum was first founded in 1849. Since that time it has been changing its location and owners many times and has accumulated a rich collection of historic articles and archeological finds. During its 150 years history the museum has been and still remains a unique centre of preservation, study and popularization of the historic sights of national and historic significance. The exposition gives a visitor a deep insight into the history of the area since ancient times till these days.
