Blagoveshensky Cathedral
It belongs to one of the oldest temples of Kharkov. It is difficult to tell exactly when was it founded, but the historians agree in the opinion, that not later than 1655. People that attended the church were not very rich, it no doubt affected the condition of the church itself. It was wooden and not very attractive. There was only one priest in the church. But the number of people that attended the church kept growing from day to day and it contributed to the development of the church.
The wooden church survived a conflagration. It was reconstructed, but now it was made of stone.
It was different from other churches in the city due to its accomplishment, decoration, gorgeousness, capacity, it even used to be a cathedral from 1846 till1863. After the revolution in 1917 the history of Blagoveshensky Cathedral like the history of many more temples in Ukraine got some tragic shade.
The cathedral was opened again only in 1943 and has never been closed since. The cathedral is not only the pride of Ukraine, but it is also thee pride of the whole Orthodox world.
