Museum of heroic Sevastopol defense 1853 – 1854

This is a museum-panorama, narrating about one of the episodes of 349-day heroic defense of Sevastopol – repulsing by the defenders of the city the enemy assault June 6 1855 . Original round building with a dome crowned with a rotunda, was erected by the project of war engineer Enberg and the architect Feldman. The diameter of the building is 36 meters, the same as its height. Inside the building a picturesque canvas is placed. Its length is 115 meters, height – 14. by the idea of the painter, the looker when rose to a special dais as if finds himself on the top of the Malakhov Kurgan, where decisive actions of 1855 took place.

Kroshitskiy’s Art Museum:

It was opened on the 6 th of November in 1927. Its collection is one of the most interesting in the Crimea and in whole Ukraine.

The museum’s building is an architectural masterpiece of the city, one of the few constructions that have come off unhurt after war.

Today there are more than 8 thousands masterpieces of art, sculptures, drawings, and arts and crafts. The originals of west European, Russian, Ukrainian artists of the XVI-XX centuries: Levitan, Shishkin, Repin, Ivazovsky, Vereschagin, Serov, Kramskoy, Polenov, Rober, Bassano. There are also some expositions of the modern artists.

Skelsky Menkhir

Actually it is Sevastopol ’s Stonehenge. Sevastopol ’s menkhirs are vertical stone blocks, put as obelisks, one of the most famous monuments of the ancient men.

Only two menhirs remained in Sevastopol. The first is 2.8 meters high, the weight is more than 6 tons, the second is a bit lower – 1,5 m.

Military and Historical Museum of Black Sea Fleet

It was founded on the 11 of April in 1869.It was the Sevastopol Defense participants’ initiative.

In Saint-Petersburg there was even a special committee established in order to organize the museum. There was also a special voluntary charitable fund organized to create this museum.

The museum received some personal things, photographs, documents, manuscripts, collections of cold steel and fire arms, some prints and paintings of Ivazovsky, Rubo, Makovsky. General Totleben gave his own house for it to become a museum.

On the 25 th anniversary the museum received a special building. The architect of this museum is Kochetkov.

Nowadays the exposition tells us about the history of Black Sea Navy from its very beginning. There is unique collection of ancient and modern arms, ships’ patterns, military uniforms, masterpieces of battle-paintings and photographs.

7 halls of the museum are devoted to different stages of navy’s development. There are also excursions to the real ship of Black Sea Navy.

The museum is opened 10 am- 5 pm. Monday, Tuesday are days off.
