Kharkov , one of the Ukrainian region centers, is a giant of the national industry, a big educational and cultural center. The city is located in the north-eastern part of the Ukraine, on the border of the two landscape belts – forest-steppe and steppe, near the junction of the Lopan and the Udy rivers that flow into the Seversky Donets. The territory of Kharkov is a slightly rolling plane, grooved with riverbeds, clefts and valleys. The city sits on five hills and five vales. The population level is second largest in the Ukraine and now is close to 1.5 million.

Kharkov is situated far away from the oceans, however the sea air is often brought here with the winds, which makes its climate temperate continental, with prolonged but not severe winters. The summer is warm and even hot.

The land of Kharkov has always been famous for outstanding figures of culture, poets, playwrights, artists, actors, who made a considerable contribution to the national culture.

The truth is that Kharkov is not much of a tourist city and therefore can not compete with such leaders of world tourism as Venice, Rome or Saint Petersburg (although in some sense Karkov in Ukraine is like St. Petersburg in Russia). Kharkov is the largest scientific industrial and trade center of the Ukraine. At the same time all guests and visitors who come to this city on business trips say that they like it. They admit that the city has beautiful parks, squares and gardens and that it has a lot of greenery.

Kharkov is a city of great traditions, a city of remarkable destiny, a city that is proud of its past. Between 1917 – 1934 Kharkov was the capital of the Soviet Ukraine. It was here that the great achievements of the national criminology were made. The lives of many well-known writes, artists and actors, thinkers Vernadsky and Skovoroda are connected with Kharkov.
